Vicealmirante Ingeniero Jose Manuel Sanjurjo Jul

Director de Construcciones Navales Militares

 “Piratas, Chips, y Gasolineras”

A 1970 graduate of the Spanish Naval Academy, Vice Admiral Sanjurjo’s present responsibilities include supervision of the design, construction, and testing of new ships and weapon systems; management of the Navy’s Research and Development program; and implementation of new systems into the fleet. His professional experience includes management of the programs for the Santa Maria, FFG, and Fragata F-100 classes of vessels, as well as serving in Washington and Paris on international weapons development programs.

He has also pursued an active academic career, up to the doctorate level, and is a Doctor Ingeniero de Armes Navales, his thesis having been on the subject of mathematical aspects of missile defense. His professional experience has carried over to an ongoing interest in research into the history of the technology of shipbuilding, the construction of naval weapons, and the effects of naval programs on the national economy.

Vice Admiral Sanjurjo holds many honors, including the Grand Cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermengildo. We had great pleasure to hear him on 22 April.
