General Coll graduated from the General Military Academy in Zaragoza in 1970. His many assignments include regimental and division commands, as well as being Technical Advisor to the Office of Chief of Defense Staff and Commanding Officer of the European Army Corps Operations Center, Strasbourg, France. In addition, his international missions include serving as United Nations Observor in Angola; command of the Mozambique Support Unit for humanitarian aid following the floods in 2000; command of the SPAGT XIV Task Force in Bosnia-Herzegovinia; and command of the BMN Plus Ultra Mission in Iraq.
He holds several Spanish and foreign medals among others, The Great Cross of the Catholic Queen Isabella, Great Cross of Military Merit with White Ribbon, Cross, Commendation, Plaque and Great Cross of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegildo, French National Defense Gold Medal, Bronze Cross of Military Merit of the Italian Army, NATO Medal, United Nations Medal, Gold Medal of the Polish Army, Badge of the Polish Multinational Center-South Division to mark the “Liberty for Iraq” operation.
On 18 July, 2008 he was appointed by Royal Decree to the General of the Army of the Combat Branches Corps and Chief of Army Staff.
