The Admiral has enjoyed a distinguished naval career at sea and in the air, where he qualified in both rotary (SH-3D helicopters) and fixed wing (AV-8 “Harrier” aircraft).
Born in Consuegra (Toledo), Admiral Palomino joined the Navy in August, 1969. Numerous sea assignments of increasing responsibility culminated in his appointment as commanding officer of the aircraft carrier “Principe de Asturias”. In October, 2003 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and assigned to the Spanish Navy staff as Chief of the Communications and Information Systems Division. This was shortly followed in January, 2004 by his being named Commander of the Fleet Projection Group and of the Spanish-Italian Amphibious Force, as well as commanding the first Spanish contingent in the Lebanon, for operation “Libre Hidalgo”.
A further promotion to Vice Admiral and Commander of the Spanish High Readiness Maritime Headquarters came in October, 2006. Admiral Palomino received his most recent promotion and took up his present duties on September 5th, 2008.
